Whiplash is one of the most common injuries sustained in road traffic accidents. If you suffered whiplash in an accident that wasn't your fault, you may be entitled to compensation.

What is Whiplash?

Whiplash is a soft tissue injury to the neck, caused by a sudden, forceful movement of the head, typically in a rear-end collision. Symptoms include neck pain and stiffness, headaches, dizziness, shoulder pain, and arm pain or numbness.

Symptoms may not appear immediately after the accident — they can develop over several hours or days. It is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible and keep a record of your symptoms.

Changes to Whiplash Claims

In May 2021, new rules came into effect for low-value whiplash claims (valued under £5,000) arising from road traffic accidents. Under the new Official Injury Claim portal, tariff-based compensation amounts now apply to whiplash injuries lasting up to two years.

For more serious injuries, or where your claim includes other injuries alongside whiplash, the new portal may not apply and you may be entitled to a higher level of compensation. Our specialist solicitors will advise you on the most appropriate route for your individual circumstances.
