What is Whiplash?
Whiplash is a soft tissue injury to the neck, caused by a sudden, forceful movement of the head, typically in a rear-end collision. Symptoms include neck pain and stiffness, headaches, dizziness, shoulder pain, and arm pain or numbness.
Symptoms may not appear immediately after the accident — they can develop over several hours or days. It is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible and keep a record of your symptoms.
Changes to Whiplash Claims
In May 2021, new rules came into effect for low-value whiplash claims (valued under £5,000) arising from road traffic accidents. Under the new Official Injury Claim portal, tariff-based compensation amounts now apply to whiplash injuries lasting up to two years.
